....we try to wear matching stuff to look like we’re in the same band.

I want to see Brandon in polka-dotted socks…. someday.

Take a little magic, sprinkle it all over a drum set, lovingly spritz with some ‘meenahral’ water.
You get Fandy, the drummer.
drumroll, crashes and a few loud Whoo hoooooos
You see, my friends, life, reality, is not quite thaaaat simple.

For one magical night to mark the end of his two week stint with us, Fandy dazzled with his wit and charm. One wonders if at very first drum lesson, every beginner drummer (who would some day be part of a crazy band such as The UnXpected) were told that however busy the gig gets, however good or bad the gig may turn out to be, however big or small the crowd may be, it just takes a few words from the drummer to really get the crowd going.
A few words, turned into a mini stand-up for our dear Fandy. I was on the floor, gently clutching my guitar, almost in tears. Let’s just say that it was genuinely (excuse the pun) “UNXPECTED”!

For someone with little experience playing in the club situation, Fandy has the stage persona of a true entertainer. We didn’t ‘find’ him from somewhere, Fandy (drummer from The Great Spy Experiment) is a good friend of Joan’s (she’s recommended we try him out at least once), and as with all our sessionist friends who are somehow available at the right time when we ask for help, have that special ‘connection’ with the band from the first practice session on, in order to make it through to the rest of the night.(We always have very, very little time to practise with sessionists, if any at all.)
All musicians are different in their own unique way. Fandy may not have been able to play a lot of the harder rock stuff that we normally do (which, by the way, takes hours of practice for each song, and we didn’t have the luxury of time to practise with Fandy) but he sure made us groove along to the beat and won the hearts of the entire band (yes, The UnXpected).

We’re a little sad to see him go…
Thank you, Fandy. You’re a STAAAAAAAAAR!!

If you want to get featured on air, look into the site for more details and we wish you all the best!
I’ve been feeling the symptoms of flu since 3rd set Saturday night. Sunday was bearable, Monday was ‘let’s self-medicate and see-how’ day. Tuesday lunchtime I went to the doctor, after sleeping in till my bones ached.
The doc says I don’t need antibiotics. It certainly felt like I did. Hot air was coming out my nose, a gazillion litres of mucus and… yeah you get the picture. I went back and slept another 3 hours hoping it would all go away after some medication.
Bala on a Tuesday when you feel as sick as I was, was a huge test of patience. I willed time to pass by, it was a blessing in disguise that Joan had to skip Bala for another show and Asri was available to help. Asri has lots of songs, lots of songs that Fandy did not get to rehearse, but Fandy made it through. We’re really happy with Fandy’s progress, his last night during this stint will be this Thursday so be sure to come give him some support, will ya?
What seemed like a quiet night turned into two semi-rowdy (in a positive way) tables having a good time and constantly asking for more. It has been quite a test getting used to the Tuesday crowd at Bala (what crowd?) and starting all over again after building up the Wednesday crowd for almost 5 years, is quite frankly, the last thing on my mind. Work is work, when posed with a challenge, you either embrace it or you reject it without trying.
So back to the Tuesday peeps at Bala last night. Thank you for being patient with that awful nasal sound coming out of me and keeping up with my constant state of grouchiness. I really, really, really wanted to crawl home and into bed.
The show must go on, and it did. I am grateful for the support from the guys in the band.
Today I rest, tomorrow we have a good time at Wala!

This is Fandy Razak from The Great Spy Experiment. He’s saving the day for our band while Brandon serves his reservist. Fandy is always all smiles. Besides preparing for Great Spy’s sold out show at the Recital Studio, Fandy also found time to learn as many songs as he can with us. We are really grateful, thank you! Drummers are fun people. Get to know one today!

This is Sophie’s posse. A group of Justin Timberlakes who were having a ball of a time celebrating Sophie’s birthday, in fact I don’t think Sophie remembers much from last night cos she drank quite a fair bit. Let’s make up stuff to tell her!
Because Fandy is our guest drummer for two weeks, we decided to:
1)Cover some songs from The Great Spy Experiment
2) Let Fandy choose a song for Blast from the Past/ Karaoke Saturday
Here’s a cool picture of Fandy during rehearsal.
