Congratulations to Ivy’s Vendetta for winning Powerjam 07!

Congratulations to Electrico for being Singapore’s Favourite Band!

To all the finalists, you are all winners in my heart. Watching you guys give your all that night, inspires me to keep on rocking!

Especially Allura. I love Allura, I heart Inch! Ladedaaaaaaaaaaa!

To my friends and everybody who voted: From the bottom of my heart,
thank you for voting.

Thank you Barry and Madeline, Donny and Sasha, Rajeev and Hock Leng, YL and Janet, Sharon and Doreen, Ah-Tiong, Randy, Nic and Alfred, Rozz, Endy and friends for showing up to give your support. I have a feeling I am missing out some names now..

Special thanks to Addicted Entertainment, Sony BMG, Sennheiser, City Music & Kaman Music (Ovation Guitars), Imaginings, Tuborg, Toni & Guy,Infinite Frameworks and of course, Power 98!

Never in my wildest dreams would I expect to win in two categories. I wrote in a previous post that to be nominated was already something special.

I was at a loss for words when they announced the win for Best Breakout Band. To be totally honest, I was rooting for Fat Skunks.. Those guys really know how to get the crowd groovin’! I am grateful in the company of you guys and Monofone.

Simon Yong, Electric Guitar
Simon
Brandon Khoo, Drums
Brandon
Joan Chew, violin
Joan
Colin Teo, Bass
Colin
Spunky, Lungs
Guess who this pair of aviators belong to…..*clue: they’re not mine*

Two finalist bands later, it was our turn to take the stage to perform Window. The change-over was kinda messy, with one band going up, another band coming down and two Radio DJs hamming it up on stage. Realizing I had forgotten to thank a whole bunch of people I took the opportunity to finish up the ‘thank-you speech’. Moments later, the guitar amp wouldn’t work for Simon Yong (Zero Sequence) and it took a long time.

One would think that I might be able to cover that up.

Nay.

Someone in the crowd yelled, ‘YOU SUCK!’

Ouch…

It got to a point Hossan and Maggie (Power 98’s morning DJs) had to jump up to rescue me with some banter.

As soon as Simon got the guitar amp sorted, we launched into Window and rocked as hard as we could for one song. After the song I thanked the crowd, unplugged the guitar, walked off and started packing as the host DJs went up to announce the winner for Best Local Song.

Thank you Brandon, Joan and Colin for being there, thank you Simon for playing Window with us!

While I was packing my mic into the bag, Joan grabbed me and shook me a little.

Joan: Go go go!!

Shirlyn: Huh?

I didn’t know what to say.. again.

Then it came, the tears…

The tears that welled up. An accumulation of emotions from the years of slogging at the bars, months of recording at the studio, weeks of preparing for the CD launch and the tremendous support from my fellow musos and those dear to me.

I cannot say this enough: A gazillion thank yous to The UnXpected, Masashi, Ruth Ling, Addy Rasidi.

Thank you Leonard Soosay, for being the producer extraordinaire and coming to Zouk to sort out our sound for the show.

And thank you Wayne Thunder Seah, for you made sure Window got to sound the way it does now. Going through 3 guitarists just to get the right sound. You had a vision and you saw it through. Thank you for being a friend. I will never forget your drive and spirit. Rock on, Thunder!

Most of all, thank you Chris, for working so hard to push this album. Henrik Ahlgren once said, that if we both share the same vision and set the same goals we can get somewhere. The road ahead is long, but I am grateful you are walking it with me.

To all the Singapore bands I have seen, heard and met. You are all inspirations to me and I look forward to hearing your songs, always.

Rock on!

p.s- I am eagerly awaiting The Great Spy Experiment’s soon to be released album!

I write this to thank everybody who has voted for the song Window.

I write this because I don’t have the opportunity to thank each and everyone of you personally. It means a lot to me that a song can bring so many people together, that a song can be interpreted to mean the way each listener wants it to. I never had the intention to force anybody to know exactly what I was thinking when I write my songs.

That would be totally selfish.

In my whole life so far, every song that I’ve ever heard evokes different emotions in me and I enjoy that. I am grateful for all the wonderful songwriters out there who have touched my life. Music, makes me feel alive.

I wrote my songs to share, and to reach out to anyone who might think that it would mean something to them. And I am grateful for you, for letting me touch your life.

Thank you.

No matter what happens tonight, we are so going to paaaarty!

Rock on! or should I say….Mambo on!

You guys totally rocked last thursday night!

It was worth all the energy we put in for the show, so much so by the end of the night I was pretty ….well.. spent!

WHAT’S HOT
Guys singing in key
You knowing the lyrics to Window
You knowing the lyrics to many songs
You having a rockin’ good time!

WHAT’S NOT
Ang Moh lighting up paper to wave around, macam seven month...
Guys who don’t know how to give a proper, polite peck on a girl’s cheek
People sitting right in front who use the stage as their counter-top to put their precious bags :p

And to you peeps from last Saturday, don’t forget to catch Justin (the cute boy who gave us that lovely rendition of Minnie Ripperton’s Loving You) at Victoria Concert Hall 28th July (this saturday) 8pm. Tickets are only $5. This is all the information I can remember from what he told us while he was on stage with us. If you have the exact info please leave a comment, thanks!

And yesssss we still do our Karaoke Saturdays, this video IS a karaoke video, lyrics and all! The Carpenters are so cool!

See y’all at Zouk on wednesday for Mambo!

We didn’t get to listen to the new album Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace at Fashion Bar tonight cos we had to rush to Bala to work boo hoo, but seeing him in the flesh was quite something.

We weren’t allowed to take pictures either. So, folks… we’ll be adding some Foo Fighters in our repertoire (Special thanks to Makanguru) whenever possible.

Yep, finally! ;)
