We didn’t win the Best Live Act at the Motorola Super Style Mix Award..but we are THRILLED the award went to one of our favorite bands, TIRAMISU!!

Unfortunately, we heard that their bassist has recently hurt his hand so it might be a while till you folks can catch them in action. I’ve seen these guys and they are truly entertaining, with one of the best frontliner, Mr Rizman Putra.

He’s gotta be the most captivating local singers I have seen. No doubt about it. SEEING IS BELIEVIING :)

The best part about being at the event was the chance for us to catch The Observatory, The Great Spy Experiment and Close Apart perform live

Let’s not forget Royston Tan singing the very first Hokkien Song in Zouk, as part of his promo for his next film ‘881’, which he described as a ‘Ge-tai’ musical. We heart Royston Tan!

We’d like to thank all the folks that voted for us! :) Rajeev and Hock Leng, thank you for making your way to Zouk for the love and support!

And thank you to the Wala crowd for being patient with us. We hope you were ok after the Rene switched guitar and after some certain disturbance from a certain table.

As we like to say , ‘The Show Must Go On!’

Peace!

Hey guys,

Much love to those who showed up at Timbre last Saturday for the album launch with a difference where we incorporated the songs from my album into the regular UnXpected repertoire!

Thanks to Danny and Edward of Timbre, Chris Leong Tokunari of Addicted Entertainment, Sennheiser, Tuborg , Sony BMG and The UnXpected for making it a night to remember!

I got some real pretty friends to help with CD sales, thank you Esther, Peggy and Belinda and Shefah!

Belinda was wearing a fantastic pink outfit, much like the 30’s Charlston Era. She walked around hawking the CD on a tray strapped around her neck, much like girls selling cigarettes, haha. I thought that was a nice touch Bel, you rock!

Channel V was there to film some footages and I did a rambling interview with them after the first set, sweaty and all. LOL

Saturday also marked the day 98.7 Home played Verena and Newfound Jealousy , thanks to Wayne Seah!

OK, the big news is:

Vote for Shirlyn and The UnXpected!

We’ve been nominated for Best Live Act in the Motorola Super Style Mix 2007. We’re so stoked! Brandon, Joan and myself will be attending the event before rushing back to Wala on 28th April!

Vote today!

Thank you! Rock on!

Before I start this entry.

squeal!

I finally heard Window on Power 98.

Yours truly has been living out of boxes in the new pad, so I finally set up my old hi-fi system and tuned into radio….
I have to tell you guys. It is an absolutely unreal feeling. Words cannot describe. Nope.

All I can say is THANK YOU.

To all the folks involved in making this happen.

But let me touch on what went on at the official launch last night.

It almost didn’t happen when the clouds loomed and the multiple drops of rain touched the ground before the soundcheck. I sat at the Makansutra with the band, thinking about the many people we invited. Thinking about how disappointed they would be…

And the drink stall just won’t operate, I didn’t understand why they were closed when the food stalls were opened.

Anyhooo…

The skies decided to smile upon us at the last minute. We hurried though soundcheck so that Jack and Rai could squeeze themselves into soundcheck 10min before their actual show. Yes, it rained for THAT long. I guess that’s the downside to playing an open air venue. Well since we got the slot we have to do our best.

I’d like that thank EVERYBODY for showing up last night. Thank you all for screaming, rocking out and listening to my songs being performed with such passion by none other than my band The UnXpected. Asri, Brandon, Joan, Colin and Rene worked really hard to make last night’s show a night to remember, with very little preparation time. I know the show wasn’t perfect, due mostly to my nerves getting the better of me. I guess you guys are a little confused as to why I would even be nervous, with the many years of experience on stage behind me.

Well, this is the first time I am performing all of my songs to a crowd that might hate it. That itself freaked me out. Big time.

I saw many familiar faces and I am so grateful for your attendance. Barry, Madeline, Jason, Kayo, Clare + her bf, Hock Leng and Rajeev, my family, The Leong Tokunaris, the lovely twins, Rudy and Sue, Boby, Mel and Saffy, Claryce, Kimmy, Drake, Joshua, Dennis, Wayne, Alan Z, Alicia, Mark, Kay Chin, Dom, Darren, Randy, Ming… if I forgot anyone please do remind me..

update- Azri and his lovely gf! Wesley and Wendy Lai, Ian Tan, Keith, Juliet, Yumei, Rouk, Tony and Elaine, Gerry and Mags…and ducky!

I guess I really started to let my hair down during the last set when we could REALLY have fun with the crowd. People LUUUURVE Brandon! We also did a little cha-cha version of Blower’s Daughter for the hell of it. Someone in the crowd yelled ‘SHOW OFF!’ when Brandon started his drum solo on Money for Nothing, Brandon got up and threw his drumsticks backstage, which tickled everybody. I DO have so much fun playing with Brandon! haha.

Rene was also in his element as he played crazy solos. The crowd lapped it up like there was no tomorrow. I guess this is also one of the first time many folks got to see Colin play keyboards. Colin works very hard as the alternate bassist of The UnXpected, his true talent is in the keyboards. Thank you Colin!

I’m sure by now a majority of the guys in the crowd are madly in love with Joan! Who can resist a hot chick playing the violin??!!

Fact: Brandon and Asri DID take a shower (but not together) in between the two sets!

The CD sales started even before we started the sets. There were hardworking folks at the CD counter: Kayo, Mikey, Chrissy, Sean and Nic. Thank you guys!

Thank you June, you’ve done make-up and now, you’ve left my website address as an airbrush tattoo on different parts of people’s bodies.

Thank you Esplanade for letting me launch the CD at the Waterfront. Thank you Chris Leong Tokunari for producing the launch and doing so much more as my manager and the exec producer of the album.

Thank you Sony BMG for pushing Window to the radio stations.

I know I keep saying thank you at all the shows. But I am really so grateful for all the help I am getting…

Pam (Caffeine Creative) and Chris came up with the idea of the CD cover, which is kinda like and envelope with ‘letters’ (the lyrics) in it. The idea stems from how each song is like a personal letter to someone, and that is really true!

Once again, thank you guys for being there. If you missed last nite, I hope to see you at Timbre next week!

Oh yeah, if you like Window, vote for it on Power 98! SMS 98209800
